Quick fix for beauty

An individual’s struggle to maintain a unique identity and self-understanding apart from media influence becomes increasingly difficult.  Women and men go to the extreme as going through cosmetic surgery, also known as quick-fix for weight loss. Televisions and magazines have an influence in this by portraying surgery like a fancy, acceptable procedure that gives you best result…
Reality shows such as Doctor 90210, keeping up with the kardashians shows how cosmetics surgery such as tummy-tuck, body lift, ribs removal … (I could go on and on) could enhance their natural beauty. My point is these reality shows and magazines cover acts as the public mirror because people aspire to be like that and want to recognise themselves in the presentations in the media. However the surgeries also have many negative effects.

Looking at our very own artist Mshoza  (Nomasonto Maswanganye-Msibi) went all her way to look like a white person with skin lightening procedure, like really??? I feel like the media’s agenda has an impact in the psychological stress that most women face when it comes to their appearances. Are women disempowering themselves financially with these cosmetic surgeries to maintain their image?

  1. I know many will disagree with me on this but I feel if you can afford surgery then go ahead and tummy tuck and do your noise job if it is what you want and you are doing it for yourself

    1. I believe one shouldn't do it for wrong reasons. You can afford but do you need it for yourself or to be accepted to the society

  2. I think it all begins within one's confidence. Some people do it to boost their self esteems and want to be seen as better people than who they naturally are. I believe it is a waste of money and people should start loving who they are, unless your skin seriously needs surgery to remove burnt scars for example.

  3. The word beauty goes a long way as other people take extra miles to be accepted by other people. This can also build up your self-esteem as individual person.I do not see any wrong doing if you can afford and I strongly agree with Siphosethu Mahlauli.

    1. Fair enough but my arguement again is because you can afford, are you going to keep on transforming your natural features like most american celebrities do

  4. Beautiful is classified in so many ways in our society....
When we are watching music videos we see beautiful bodies,am sure some of us we wont mind to a surgery on our butt, breast even in-hence our curves.Even buy hair for thousand...
we expect it because that is what the society wants and for us to feel as if we belong, people might say it is low self esteem but i say its for us to be excepted....
as for being naturaly its boring lol...

    1. Lol wow natural beauty is the best way a person can best be themselves, i think women should accept themselves the way they created to stay empowered, really these a different character and confidence between woman who spent $4 million on plastic surgery and a natural woman who appreciate herself

  5. Wow..! Very interesting, i like! From my point of view, the society is doing all those stuff to impress other people. I mean like really now?! That's low life! We should learn to accept our images as God created us. By doing so we wil be accepting & honouring him with love as our creator. Spending your fortune on a make-over is useless. U may be rich and all that but every action has a reaction. Looking fake is disgusting! I go with natural beauty Nana!

  11. I thought how wonderful it would be if each of us could feel the same reassurance that I felt that day by simply taking a step back and appreciating our own God given beauty! Not just the physical beauty, but our entire beautiful self, inside and out. I reflected on how important it is never to give anyone control over our perceptions of ourselves because God created each of us in his own image and He did not make any mistakes on any of his creations! cbd bath bomb houston
