We especially women we harsh and crucify ourselves on the
things we do and how we look. I AM on Vuzu TV has inspired me to write this
entry because it made me realise that we have to grow a thick skin in order to
take criticism well not as a personal attack.
A TV personality and model, Lerato Kganyago mentioned how
she struggled to get into media industry because the casting agencies told her
she is too skinny “I was told I am too skinny for the role” she said. Yet again
another prominent radio dj, Anele Ndoda had a similar experience only
difference is she was told how too big she was to do some gigs such as MC at events. What does
the media want??? Identity is consistent battle and a struggle. Reality of the matter is that the media can and will decide what face they want and as a n individual you have to have a positive mindset... and that right attitude will guarantee a gig you deserve.
From the younger age, girls have to be taught about
self-worth. We have to be true to ourselves because if one knows who they are,
what somebody else says won’t bother you. Big don't mean ugly, and thin sure don't mean pretty. If a
person wants to be pretty, they walk pretty, talk pretty and act pretty. Can't
nobody take pretty from you.”
